This Minor taught me that one needs to be an out of the office guy, but also a scientist and academic who knows how to explore an innovation. Doing this minor has made me even more determined to succeed as an entrepreneur, I really don’t see any other way then starting my own company right now.

ABOUT

WHY THIS PROGRAMME?

Technology entrepreneurs are the driving force behind our evolving knowledge economy. They can work in any context, from small start-ups to larger organizations. Unsurprisingly, they are in high demand.

OUR APPROACH

In the minor programme "Technology Entrepreneurship" you learn the essential knowledge and competences to work as a technology entrepreneur. As you engage in authentic and real-world experiences, you will be able to deepen your knowledge through practice and extend your learning through reflection in the classroom.

In this programme you will not only study technology entrepreneurship; you will become a technology entrepreneur. By actively undergoing the entrepreneurial process, you are able to empathize with, understand and 'feel' the life-world of the entrepreneur. This allows you to clearly make decisions as to what extent entrepreneurship should be part of your future career.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

At the end of this programme, you will be able to:

  • Understand, evaluate and apply the key concepts related to the process of exploring, developing and exploiting science-based business opportunities;

  • Understand the rich contextual environment of science-based entrepreneurship and the nature of the relationships needed to develop with key stakeholders;

  • Understand what strong entrepreneurial competencies you possess and what competencies should be developed or looked for in future teamwork, in order to succeed in technology entrepreneurship;

  • Envision how and to what extent technology entrepreneurship should be part of your future career.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Completing the minor programme will broaden your horizon with respect to what you can do with your Bachelor's degree in science or technology. Here are some opportunities:

REALISE YOUR BUSINESS IDEA

You will likely finish the Minor Technology Entrepreneurship with a team, a promising business idea and a solid commercialisation plan.

Why not execute it?

We would never recommend to drop out of your study programme. Instead, you could start initiating the commercialisation of the idea in your spare time. You will continue to build your entrepreneurial experience and it could be a solid start of your career when the business actually takes off!

CREATE YOUR MASTERPLAN!

A significant part of the minor program is focused on business, entrepreneurship and innovation topics. This increases your eligibility to participate in Master programmes other than your core scientific discipline.

Examples are the Science, Business & Innovation Master’s track in Chemistry and Physics or the joint degree (VU and UvA) Master programme in Entrepreneurship. See the links below!

WORK FOR A TECHNOLOGY COMPANY

Technology and science-based startups, but also larger technical companies, need science graduates with an entrepreneurial mindset. We have numerous examples of students that start working in business development settings during and after their study programme. It is not uncommon for students to already start their career with a Bachelor's degree.
